Individual Music Therapy

Looking for a way to help your child express themselves?

Our private music therapy classes are the perfect solution for your child! This one-on-one approach helps your child overcome challenges through music.

How does it work?

An assessment will be conducted prior to commencing music therapy sessions. Every music therapy session will present a variety of activities to aim at enhancing the therapeutic goals established at the assessment tailored to the individual’s needs.

A variety of resources and instruments will be used in music creation and as the music making continues there could possibly be collaborative compositions and performances presented. The sessions will be client-centered with direction and most importantly it should be fun and enjoyable.

Location

Voices of Heaven provides a mobile therapy service in Sydney Hills Norwest area with a face-to-face location (by appointment) in Norwest. We conveniently attend your home, school or community for therapy sessions and focus on implementing therapy strategies in your everyday settings. Additional travel fees apply, click here for more info.

Voices of Heaven also offers music therapy via telehealth.

Assessment
During an initial assessment, we do musical activities with therapeutic goals. Then we discuss with you and any other relevant parties (e.g. family/carers, school, other therapists), the goals, abilities and needs.

We gather the necessary information for meeting the requirements of funding bodies e.g. NDIS.

We complete an assessment report which summarises the program and make recommendations for therapy.

Usually the assessment session is one session only; however, in some cases, if the therapist feels the assessment needs to be extended to grasp for better planning, there may be a subsequent 2nd or 3rd assessment session; however, it never exceeds 3 sessions.

Online Referral and Service Agreement

Before commencing therapy sessions, you (or for participants under 18, a parent/carer/representative) will be asked to complete an online referral form and return a signed service agreement. The online referral and service agreement outlines important information about the music therapy program such as:

• The duration, frequency and location of your sessions
• The total cost of the music therapy program and how the sessions will be paid for
• Expectations of the music therapy service including the goals of therapy to work towards
• Cancellation policies of a session or ceasing music therapy

Sessions

The sessions include a variety of creative activities specifically designed to help achieve therapeutic goals.

Recommendations for therapeutic activities that can optimise therapy between sessions can be provided.

Reports

Progress notes are kept after each session to document the progression towards the therapeutic goals.

At the end of the music therapy program or prior to the scheduled plan reassessment with the NDIA, a comprehensive progress report (booked under progress report) is written detailing the music therapy supports that have been provided, outcomes achieved, and any recommendations for further therapy.

Working as a Team

In order to provide an inclusive music therapy service, we work closely with the client’s support team (where possible) including parents/carers, teachers, support workers, other therapists and health professionals to ensure that the music therapy program aligns with the overall health and well-being goals.
